SteemMakers' alpha released - Let us know what you and others are making

2018-02-07T15:37:48
SteemMakers is a community which focuses on uniting, helping and rewarding makers and DIYers on the Steem blockchain. You can find more info about us and how to contact us on our website www.steemmakers.com.

From announcement to alpha

Over the past two months a couple of engaged steemians have grouped together to get this community up and running with only one goal in mind: supporting you. A website was set up, a bot has been made, we worked on logo design and content definition. We spent our spare time doing something we like and sincerely hope you like the results so far.

Let us know what you and others are making

For SteemMakers to support makers on steem we need to be aware of what they are up to. Our community is small and consists of volunteers. We lack the time to continuously and consistently search for what you are making. As SteemMakers grows this will become less of a problem. For the alpha however we reach out to you. Let us know what deserves to be voted on and be featured on our site. We did our best to define the content in detail in our FAQ. The best way to let us know is by using our discord chat, more specific the #request-review channel.

Website

The website is one of the cornerstones of what we aim to become. @jefpatat spent most of his time on it. What we have now is what we had in mind for the alpha release, obviously a lot of features still need to be added. The site currently features all blog entries we support as well as most of the documentation about SteemMakers.

Bot

Bots have a negative connotation in the Steem community. Our bot is nothing more than our little helper. One of the things we do to support authors is vote on it witht the community account and leave a comment to notify the user about this. At first this was done manualy but that was really time consuming. Now our bot is taking this repetitive work out of our hands allowing us to do more usefull things.

Curation trail

@pbock investigated the use of a curation trail and @pbock wrote an article about it. In short anyone can follow the trail and as such upvote the same blog posts as the community account. There are several wins in this: more votes and rewards for the author, usefull voting by the trail followers, curation rewards for the followers,... Have a look at the article for more info.

Logo design

One of the first things we did was working on our identity. We wrote out a logo contest and ended up with this design by @vhktor. @vhktor. refined it to our current logo. One of the areas that was worked on is investigate how we can reuse the design. This is just an example of how flexible it is and what we have in mind to do with it:

What's next

We don't have a prioritized roadmap but there's a couple of items that are being discussed and worked on. Slowly our focus will be shifting to adding more features to the site. We're investigating logging in to the website with your steemit account and based on user rights allow certain new features. We will also be changing the theme of the site to streamline with the logo design.

Special thanks to
