Catfish analysis
While watching this film we can see how reality and life can play a major role when you are meeting someone online. Relationships and dating are hard these days especially when you meeting people online. When you are watching this film, you will see several examples that play a part in communication such as self-esteem, self-management and even image.
Sometimes dating and relationships are hard even in the film catfish because there is nothing that is fake about this film. Now days when you are meeting people there are plenty of people who aren’t real and will try to make up lies to make themselves feel or look better. This film might be at least 10 years but this still plays a major part in reality especially in the dating world. You will start talking to someone online and boom you have a connection and at that moment you really start being so into them. In the film” Catfish” Nev was talking to this woman named Angela who lives miles away while he was recording this documentary.
When you are watching the film “Catfish” you could see issues that dealt with communication such as image because Angela would describe herself as being something she’s not meaning she had Nev think that she was this young pretty girl who had so much going for herself and then in reality Angela lied about the whole thing. Sometimes when it comes to meeting people online you get this certain image of themselves in your mind and then when you see that’s its not how you imagined you kind of feel disappointed.
Also, another topic that would relate to this film would be self esteem most people that lie about things such as lying about their identity usually have self esteem issues where they are not happy with their life or even themselves. Id like to think that maybe she wasn’t happy with her life or how her live turned out and that includes her marriage. I never understood why she went through all this trouble making a fake Facebook account and she had a whole husband. Even in society and reality today we still deal with issues like this people will meet people online and to find out that they might have image issues, in a relationship or even in a whole marriage like Angela and Vince was. Some of the things that people do in the movie/ show and in reality, I’ll never understood why people lie about their image and can’t be real.
Another, concept that would go great with this film would be self-management because after they have met and finally warmed up to each other she finally was able to be real and opened up about the whole situation. Angela finally owned up to her mistakes and lying about who she was in those Facebook accounts. One thing that was really good on her part was finally opening up and owning up to the things that she has done. At least she has done because some people make a life about making fake accounts and never tell people the real person that they are.
Finally, when you are watching this film you will see how reality and life can always play a role in this film and even when you are meeting someone online. This film was very interesting to me especially since I’m a fan of the show called “Catfish” some of the episodes I can never understand the things that they do or why can’t people be real with themselves instead of lying to someone and having them spend plenty of miles to come see you. Identity, Image, Self Esteem, Self-Management plenty of others concept popped into my head while watching this film especially the self esteem concept. When it comes to meeting people online I just hope in the future that more people and more forward and actually real with themselves because when people lie about themselves you are actually hurting the other person and don’t even realize it. There were a few things that Angela was truthful about which were her kids and her art. Towards the end of the film we got to see the real her after she deleted all them Facebook accounts and actually starting being herself.
