Feathered Friends. I have previously shared two posts here related to savannah canaries (Sicalis columbiana), and today I am back to bring other moments of this beautiful bird. Below you can read my two previous posts:
These days it is very hot where I live, it is one of those incomprehensible heat, which fortunately lasts a few months. With this heat, plants and animals suffer a lot, and there are fewer flowers, fewer fruits, less foliage on the plants; for this reason, I am constantly supplying the water troughs on the lot with water.
En estos días está haciendo mucho calor en donde vivo, es un calor de esos incomprensibles, que afortunadamente dura pocos meses. Con este calor las plantas y los animales sufren mucho, y es que hay menos flores, menos frutas, menos follaje en las plantas; razón por la cual, constantemente estoy surtiendo de agua los bebederos del solar.
Two days ago I was approaching the lot, when I stopped to look at a small savannah canary (Sicalis columbiana), which was bathing in one of the water troughs. This bird may be the same chick that I told you about in September 2025 (almost 6 months ago). I think it's him, because I've seen him eating and flying among the lime and guava trees, the same area where I took the photos in September. I also notice that it is a young specimen, due to its somewhat small size, and I also think that it feels very comfortable living in my lot, sometimes it takes a long time to take flight, even when it sees that I am nearby.
Hace dos días me acercaba al solar, cuando me detuve para contemplar un pequeño canario de sabana (Sicalis columbiana), que estaba bañándose en uno de los bebederos. Esta ave quizás sea el mismo pichón del cual les hablé en septiembre 2025 (hace casi 6 meses). Creo que es él, porque le he visto comiendo y volando entre los árboles de limas y guayabas, la misma zona en donde tomé las fotos de septiembre. También noto que es un ejemplar joven, por el tamaño algo pequeño, y además creo que se siente muy cómodo viviendo en mi solar, en ocasiones tarda largo rato en emprender vuelo, aun cuando él vea que estoy cerca.
At the time I saw it, it was noon, and the sun was shining in the sky and the ground was giving off a lot of heat, so a good bath was essential for this small bird to calm the heat. I was surprised to see him so calmly taking his bath in the water fountain closest to the lime tree. He didn't care that I was almost two meters away, he continued enjoying his delicious bath, completely submerging himself in the water. After about five minutes, I guess it had cooled down, it stopped, shook itself off, and took flight. I'm sure he felt fresh and renewed.
Al momento de verlo, era mediodía, y el sol relumbraba en el cielo y la tierra desprendía mucho calor, por lo que, para esta pequeña ave era indispensable un buen baño, para aplacar el calor. Me causó sorpresa verlo tan tranquilo dándose su baño en el bebedero más cercano al árbol de limas. No le importó que yo estuviese a casi dos metros de distancia, él seguía disfrutando su delicioso baño, sumergiéndose completamente en el agua. Luego de unos cinco minutos, supongo que ya se había refrescado, se paró, se sacudió y emprendió el vuelo. Estoy segura que se sentía fresco y renovado.
