Hello everyone.
This weekend was snowing in Sarajevo and I decided to visit Spring of river Bosna or Vrelo Bosne. Vrelo Bosne or Spring of the Bosna River is natural park and Nature Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo. Spring is under foothills of Mountain Igman. With unique scenery, greenery and lot of water it is very popular destination during summer.
After snow walk in Saturday and amazing scenery along the Velika Aleja promenade I decided to visit Spring of river Bosna next day. I realized that even though I visited Bosna river spring many time, I dont remember visiting during winter time.
My start point is Velika Aleja promenade. It is 3.5 kilometers long promenade that lead to spring of the river Bosna. Along promenade you can see chestnut and plane trees. There are around 3000 thousand trees along the walk way. First chestnut trees were planted in 1888 while plane trees are plant in 1892. It is very suitable for walks as it goes straight for 3.5 kilometers.
One of known features of this promenade are horse carriages. They were used here since 1895. You will see them frequently during summer. Due to weather there was none this time.
Promenade is closed with tree branches. During summer you are under shade whole way. Now there are occasional snow drops from the tree branches.
In the back you can see mountain Igman covered in mist.
It takes about 35-40 minutes to reach the park. With snow and lovely scenery along the way time pass very fast.
This is entrance to the park from Velika Aleja promenade. There is one more entrance on other side if you are arriving with vehicle.
It is different atmosphere here when everything is under the snow. Normally everything is green, full of colors and bird songs.
Winter and snow cover brought new look with less colors and less sound.
There are exceptions of course. This tree is still green.
When you see weeping willow tree in the snow, you wonder how it look under the tree top.
Answer is great.
Here is first wooden bridge and water. There are more bridges around the park.
Here is river Bosna. One small water stream that later combines into whole.
Snow caused some branches to break. Even one tree was down. You can see way. Leaves are covered in the snow.
As I mentioned previously there are several water ponds in the park. This here is largest one. Big water pond with small island in the middle. In the back are foothills of the mountain Igman.
First look at this place always impresses you. Somehow you cannot be prepared for it.
Whenever you visit you are surprised again.
Since there is water everywhere you will see several wooden bridges in the park. If I counted correctly on the map there is at least 14 of them.
Visiting at this time of year with snow around was good choice since there is more water around.
Island in the middle is has small swan house. Here in the park you can see several swan families in different parts of the park during other seasons.
This is home for one of the swan families.
Area around the Vrelo Bosna park has many walk ways to explore.
Besides swans you will see ducks and other birds as well.

We are getting closer to the main spring of the river. Here there is small island as well for the swans.
You can choose your path and enjoy the scenery.
We are near main spring.
This is the place of the spring of the river Bosnia. From here water separates into two different path and later unites into one.
Since we are here here are some facts about river Bosna and its spring. On average in one second 6000 litres of water flows in Spring of river Bosna.
River Bosna is third longest river in Bosnia and Herzegovina and it passes through 11 cities.

From here I continue my walk. You can go along the river and change sides as you wish.
There is pathway along the river bed. Park continues along the way.
More water ponds. They never stop to amaze.
Wooden bridges are nice fit into surrounding and super addition for sure.
I mentioned the swans that live here. During summer you can see them easily but now since it is colder there was none. I did not saw any and while on the bridge two of the appeared.
When you see them swim you realize why are they one of the most graceful swimmers.
They are so elegant on the water.
Passed under the bridge and continued their journey.
Swans are part of Vrelo Bosna. No matter of a season you may see couple of swans.
The walk continues. Here there several wooden bridges very near to each other.
In this photo you can see as three bridge almost continue one to another.
Wooden banks are on excellent places to enjoy the beautiful sight.
Time to go back to the starting point.
Here are our ducks. Four of them changed the location.
Snow cover showed me another beautiful face of Vrelo Bosna.
In the middle of the park there is restaurant called Swan or Labud.
This is end of my visit. I was so surprised. Even though that I was here so many times before seeing Vrelo Bosna under the snow was real gem.
You should visit Vrelo Bosna or Spring of river Bosnia during summer or autumn and if you happen to be here during winter and snow season dont miss on lovely experience.
