Karoo to Coast 100 km Mountain bike race.

Lately, I am quite lazy posting, so this events of this post already took place on 21 and 22 September 2024.
On 22 September the Karoo to Coast 100 km MTB race took place. Two of my friends and I decided to participate in this race, which is a one day race.
The race starts in the small town of Uniondale, South Africa. This town is in the Karoo, area, which is a very dry area. The race then proceeds and ends at the coastal town of Knysna, with a nice mountain in between the start and end.
On the Saturday afternoon of 21 September we went to Uniondale, where there was quite a festive atmosphere at the local show grounds from where the race would start.
We started of by having a nice beer and coke, after we have registered for the race.
The race organisers did provide some camping facilities on the show grounds, but we opted to stay in the school hostel, as it was school holidays and the hostel was empty. We were cramped into a very small room with only beds and mattresses provided. We however did have some sleeping bags to sleep in.
The evening before dinner, we went for some beers again. After drinks we went for dinner, which was included in the race entry price. The dinner consisted of mince and pasta, with a slice of ciabatta thrown in for good measure.
The ladies dishing up was not shy and we each had a huge plate of food, that was very delicious.
On race morning we had some breakfast burgers at the school hostel, which consisted of a bun, with egg, bacon and cheese as filling!! We were ready for our adventure!!
Although it was could, the sun was out and we were looking forward to a great day riding.
All the next photos and video up to the end of this post is not mine, I have provided the source below each photo. These photos are however free to all participants in the race.
This is to show the environment in which the race took place, which was really beautiful.
We really had an amazing time riding this race and enjoyed it tremendously. There was more than a thousand people taking part.
Below is my Strava, showing the distance and elevation and below that is the race results. I came in 480th overall and 365th in the male category on normal Mountain Bikes.(Not e-bikes) This is out of 1180 people who finished the race. Being 61 years old, I think I did great.
I hope you enjoyed the post and that you have a wonderful day.
