The name did justice to this film and when I watched the trailer back in mid-2024, I was surprised at how overwhelmingly confused it made me!!
I had to watch this movie solo because no one, not my friends and husband wanted to watch it. I know it's too much to take and I had to find out what's so weird going on in this film; so I watched it. And I have to agree, my brain got unbearably messed up.
If you don't like wired stuff, psychedelic things come to your dream, metaphor, and parody in a movie then this 'hot mess' is not for you.
What made me like this movie?
When I saw Michelle Yeoh in this movie; I thought she must not signed up for something that was not good. Then, after watching the trailer I got more interested. The Multiverse and the comedic action is what attracted me the most.
The movie is about Family but it's not an everyday story, nor the way of portraying it was usual. It's a chaotic film, and as have said, the name did justice to it; everything is happening simultaneously in the movie. You have to pay attention, otherwise, you have to rewind and watch in a loop.
Although there was chaos, I like the end message; trying to find a family bond, dealing with the trauma, and the mother-daughter relationship make sense to me.
The visuals of this movie were stunning. The googly eyes, the confetti, the transition between multiverses, everything felt satisfying to watch. It did seem weird when I watched it but later, I understood it was kind of 'off-the-track' but 'significant' (if that makes sense to you).
The casting was really good. Not just Michelle Yeoh but others also did very well.
The philosophy behind the film was something much more attention-grabbing. My friends said I made it myself. There was no message but chaos and comedy. But I believe that it's not for all; it feels heavy-headed to take the idea of 'searching for the meaning of life' in such a way.
On top of everything, I like the idea of transitioning from one to another, in between multiverses. That seemed like a mixture of sci-fi and comedy action to me. But there were some slow-phased scenes too. And I was all for it.
I can understand why others don't like it. It's a total CHAOS and full of PARODY and HUMOR. It's not everyone's take to consume all the absurdness.
If anyone wants to keep aside the conventional mindset and watch something that will give them a new perspective, understand the message through humor and parody, and watch something that will poke their mind when they think about life, then this is the film.
I wouldn't say, I always watch such movies and get it. Rather, I watched it once and forgot many details now. But there is something 'amazing' that I remember. It's the philosophy, it's the unconventional way of telling stories.
It's that kind of a film that rewatching make it much more clear. If you are into unusual things, then this is for you. And if you don't like chaos rather than a slow-phased movie then you must avoid it. You can have a weird dream for a few days!
One thing I must say is I believe I'm not the only one (although in my group) that 'Get the Point' of the movie. But if anyone is open-minded to explore non-traditional ways of storytelling then they will enjoy this chaos too.
After all, life is a Chaos, right?
