The Post That Haunts Me
February 13th, 2024. I wrote a post called "Three Steps Back to Move One Step Forward."
"I decided to dive into programming but never really found the time to get a solid grip on it."
"I'm giving up on developing Sloth.Buzz."
I had debt. Unfinished projects. No direction. I was done.
That was the public version.
The Plan Nobody Knew About
A few months before that post, I sat down and wrote a 5-year plan on a piece of paper. Specific years. Specific goals.
Year 1-2: Learn new skills. Get myself sorted.
Year 3: Change job. Increase income. Fix finances. House.
Year 4: Fortify. Build security.
Year 5: Plan the next 5 years.
I showed that note to someone important in my life. Told her I wasn't a complete man yet. Couldn't promise stability. But I had a plan.
That was October 2023.
What I Told Sloth
Around the same time, I told him something similar.
"Give me time. I need to learn skills. Two years."
He didn't take it well. I could feel he was down about it. We had built something together, and now I was saying I couldn't continue. That hits different when you're the one holding the vision.
But eventually, he understood. That's who he is – patient, honest, kind. The kind of person who makes you believe the world could be peaceful if everyone was like him.
So I retreated. Back into my bushes. Learning. Meditating. Building skills. For nearly two years.
You know me – Pat from the Bushes. This time, I really meant it.
January 2026: Year 3
That piece of paper? I'm exactly where it said I'd be.
- ✅ New skills learned
- 🔄 Job change in progress
- 🔄 Income increase in progress
- 🔄 House – moving in a few months
I'm not ahead of schedule. I'm not behind. I'm on track. Month by month.
Some people think long-term planning doesn't work. Maybe they're just not doing it right.
December 10th, 2025
I sent Sloth a message:
"Hey Bro, what's up?"
He replied:
"What's up"
And then I told him everything. How something big had gone very wrong back then. How I tried to push through on my own but couldn't. How I retreated into my bushes for nearly two years.
Meditated. Learned skills. Meditated. Learned skills.
"I call myself today: The Constructor."
"Mode: Unsloth."
He Needed Time
It took him a month to process two years of absence. I knew I had to be patient. Keep nudging. Let him come back at his own pace.
He's the original Sloth. The community exists because of him. It's quiet now, but if anyone can wake it up again, it's him.
He's the head. I'm the coder. We need each other. Always have. But now it goes both ways – he can use me the way he wants to. I finally have the skills to deliver.
A Friendly Note About Hive Interfaces
I love Hive. The concept is beautiful – decentralized, censorship-resistant, creator-owned.
But let's be honest for a moment.
Millions in development costs. Years of building. And still... every interface looks like a crypto project from 2017. You want to share an article with a non-crypto friend? Good luck. They'll think you're linking them to a scam site.
Here's the thing nobody talks about: Blockchain is just a database. A slow one, sure. But the frontend doesn't care what's behind it. You can build beautiful interfaces on any database.
The ugliness is a choice. Or laziness. Or both.
We chose differently.
What's Different Now
When I left, I couldn't build what I promised. Ideas without execution.
Now?
- SlothBuzz iOS Wallet – App Store ready
- SlothBuzz Website – A new interface in development
About that website: No other Hive interface pulls community information together the way we do. None. I've looked. Multiple times. Hoping someone would build something decent so I wouldn't have to.
Here's the thing – I usually hate my own output. I don't look at what I build and think "wow, this is amazing." I see the flaws. The things I'd do differently. The shortcuts I took.
And yet... it's still better than everything else out there. Which says more about the state of Hive interfaces than about my work.
What's Next
We're back. Together this time.
Hive has been sleeping. The community is scattered. Nothing has really changed in two years.
We're not here to save Hive. We're here to build what we want to use. If others benefit, great. If the existing interfaces feel a little... outdated... in comparison, well, maybe that's motivation for everyone to step up.
Friendly competition, right? 😉
To the Sloth.Buzz Community
This is about Sloth and me. Without both of us, this constellation doesn't exist.
We have plans. Real ones this time. Not "NFT projects Q3 2023" promises that never happen.
Just building. Step by step. Feature by feature. Whenever we find a quiet afternoon.
The Actual Message
Two years ago, I said "three steps back." I wrote a 5-year plan on a piece of paper. I retreated into my bushes.
Today: Year 3. On track. Mode Unsloth.
The Constructor emerged from the bushes. The Sloth is awake.
Let's see what happens when we actually try.
Pat from the Bushes – The Coder. Finally out. Keeping busy.
