PHOTO BY MEPrior to 2024 I was a full time content creator on hive. That meant posting once or twice daily, coupled with hours of rapport with community members (off and on chain). Creating content on Hive was my only source of income, so there wasn't much of a choice in the matter. Fast forward to 2024, I moved to Europe for my academic pursuit, and it has been a struggle keeping up with a hobby I once loved so much.
Recently, creating content on Hive has neither been financially or socially rewarding. For instance, it takes roughly about 2 hours to write a decent post on hive, which, based on my current hourly wage, is around €30, that translates to about €60 worth of upvote. It is almost inconceivable to earn such an amount on Hive and to some extent unnecessary.
But you can do so in your free time?
My free time is unfortunately much more precious to me and parting with it means scarifying my rest and time with my wife and kids. I'm at a point where my finances are relatively okay, so I would rather opt not to write at all.
I would have been indifferent about the shortfall in financial compensated for blogging on Hive if the Blockchain was socially rewarding in terms of views and engagement but that isn't the case sadly. Most of my mutuals are inactive, and I have never really made out time to make new acquaintances (because I am slowly becoming a old dog that cannot be taught new tricks).
Despite all the shortcomings of Hive as a social platform, it is still my haven. A strange thing to say considering the number of weirdos we have here, but I do find it to be a safe space especially when compared to platforms like twitter/X.
So whenever I do have the time I try to scribble down a few things (before my kids interrupt). Writing is cathartic and I want to write more whenever I have the case.
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE.
Whilst supporting a family of 4 which includes myself, two new borns, and a wife who is currently running a master degree, I hope to commence my pursuit for my second degree in computer science in the second quarter of 2026, and whilst I still have chunk of free time, I want to also delve back into content creation.
Now, the major challenge is deciding what type of content to post. I'm used to sharing more personal blog posts which accounts for most the content I have shared over the years, but I will like to tone that down and post less about myself as possible.
So for 2026, I will be attempting to creating content about fitness, books, and learning German. I also have a dedicated page where I talk about my fatherhood journey.
This will be my last attempt at content creation. If this doesn't gain traction (outside Hive), I will focus all my energy towards getting my second degree and masters. Fingers crossed.
