Gas rocket

In the gas rocket experiment we will see how a chemical reaction is capable of raising a rocket.

Materials rocket gas experiment:

  • A glass bottle with a cork that fits well (the cork will be our rocket).
  • Vinegar.
  • Baking soda.
  • Water.

Procedure:

Put a little bicarbonate in the bottle. Put the cork in water so that it moistens well. Pour some vinegar into the bottle and cover it as quickly as possible. Now wait for the cork to fly off like a rocket.

Explanation of the experiment:

The result occurs because the bicarbonate together with the vinegar produce a chemical reaction. They form a gas called carbon dioxide which causes pressure to throw the cork out of the bottle.

Many rockets work in the same way, causing carbon dioxide to eject them to fly.
