I knew almost nothing about this Polish city before we went there. I did hear about some dwarfs on the streets (I heard it from a friend who recommended this city), and a cathedral. Not much more info I had about Wrocław.
But what a nice surprise we were in for, indeed. We came here to make a little detour between visiting Prague (which was also fantastic) and going to Kraków. We bought our train tickets while we were still home, as well as booked the accommodation, but I didn’t have time to explore more about the tourist attractions of this city.
It turned out that it wasn't needed at all because our accommodation was not far from the city centre, so everything was so close; we could discover the charming corners of the city by ourselves. That afternoon when we arrived, got to know the surroundings a bit and rested, we went for a walk. All I told my husband was that we were going to hunt some dwarfs - what we would see along the way was still a mystery.

The first surprise we stumbled upon was this building, which I later found out was the Old Town Hall. Turning to the right from here was like stepping into a fairy tale. The tale could go something like... once upon a time, there were two children wandering in the streets of Wrocław. It was a foreign country for them, but still, they didn't feel lost. Neither hungry, however, those tall and colourful buildings seemed to them like carefully elaborated ginger, strawberry, orange, cinnamon, apple and lemon-flavoured biscuits, adorned with chocolate windows.

Nah... let's leave that story behind haha. The truth is that all these buildings in the Old Town of Wrocław amazed us. We really didn't know we would see such beautiful architecture, a mix of different influences from the past. They were very well preserved! I suppose that constant renovations and maintenance are needed to preserve such old and wonderful buildings. Still, I am not sure if all those shops and cafés match the vibe of these buildings. 😅

Our visit to Wrocław happened in November. That evening, when we walked through those streets, we noticed that some serious work around arranging and decorating the buildings, squares and streets for Christmas was about to start. We still didn't see the final result, just the preparation part.

These two buildings, known as Jaś i Małgosia, are connected by an arcade. I found out that they date back to the 15th century, and that under the arcade was the entrance to a cemetery.

St. Elizabeth's Church is just too big to take a photo of it haha, (just excuses of course, I took a photo of it but it is not a good one) so here is a little detail. Although the church is from the 14th century, I think I see some modern stained glass here.

Isn't the little square with flower stalls indeed like a scene from a fairy tale?

While already going back to our accommodation, we passed by the Wrocław Opera. And that's the end of today's post...

Nooooooo, that was just a joke. I still haven't shown you the dwarfs!! You remember, we went to search for them, the real daytime walk happened the next day. 😂 So, let's start with these little guys, scattered all around the city. To imagine their size, here is one standing in front of the Korona Hotel:

In front of a souvenir and toy shop, a dwarf is waving to us.

In front of a bookshop, a little girl is reading a book:

Viking girl?

In front of a pastry shop, he was eating chocolate:

Cheers 🥂

Juliusz IX:

Power events:

Firefighters

Deaf, blind and in a wheelchair:

A soldier:

Playing with a plane and a bus:

My favourite - with heart-shaped lollipops:

Again drinking? Ogorzałek i Opiłek

This one was sitting close to the church:

Breaking a strongbox?

Another one reading a book:

Is he a trader?

In front of the puppet theatre (can you spot the kindness rock?):

A dwarf lady who was photographing another, mini dwarf, Troszka i Adoratorek:

Just a fountain - not a dwarf!

I hope you didn't get too tired from many dwarfs... I enjoyed searching for them that evening, even though the next day I found more and more of them! Anyway, we finished our evening stroll with a cup of hot chocolate, looking for the next day's extended exploration of Wrocław.
