I suppose, this is officially my first entry to The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 299. I've written a couple beer reviews in the past but never really officially joined the challenge. And today it's my first time joining along with my first experience tasting amber red lager beer.

Today I tasted something not-so-regular. It was my first time trying amber lager beer. Back home, I didn’t find any and they were all mostly pale lager. Also, I am a fan of Guinness and any beer with strong malty taste and even stouts. That’s why even at 7/11 they have a few selections including Hoegaarden Rosé with a cute can. I decided to pick beer with roasted caramel malt taste. The can itself was just like its name, covered with a picture of Black Dragon. It was quite interesting and how a can should be. In Thailand, 7/11 sells non-boring cans and those can can be a little collectibles. But I don’t know if shipping cans are allowed so, maybe I can’t collect all the cans which is unfortunate 🥹

Black Dragon Celtic Taste Test

First of all, I didn’t even know that amber red beer existed. When I got it, I thought it was going to be dark but when I poured it, I was quite surprised by the color. It was indeed amber red.

On my first pour, it wasn’t as foamy as stouts and just medium rising bubbles. When I had my first sip, it was smooth and was really refreshing especially when me and the people from the hostel had BBQ. So, I think I picked the right pairings because even according to Craftbeer.com, they are good with grilled meats and vegetables.

I was really fascinated by how it tastes and I can drink them everyday. Considering that the price was 50 Baht, it was a fairly reasonable price back home, I couldn’t get any drink at that price. The size was also quite large and I was satisfied with it.

Some of my acquaintances at hostel were from Germany and they told me that I shouldn’t drink with ice but who cares 😂, it was really hot and I needed something refreshing. When I asked one guy to sip, he was telling me that he couldn’t taste the alcohol and it was too light for him. He even joked about Reinheitsgebot because that beer has rice in it and I ended up calling him beer nazi 😂, of course jokingly. He ended up telling me that I might really love Germany, especially when I enjoyed drinking beer and being nerd about it. I told him that maybe I’d like it but for now, I am really enjoying the variety of beer selections in Thailand. Just like I said, this place is heaven and hell. It has everything I love but also everything that could make me sick 🤣
