Did you hear the news?
Twitter will now allow content creators to monetize their content, by adding subscriptions to their profile.
I saw this tweet by Elon Musk and even though he had mentioned it in the past, I was rather surprised to see that it is now possible.
Elon is a businessman. No matter if we agree or disagree with his decisions posed on twitter (paid verification etc), we cannot deny that he wants to make money out of his investment.
So, in my mind it is normal to say that he thought something like... "If I allow content creators to do what they do anyways and earn from it, I could earn passive income out of their subscriptions" Right?
If this is the case, then most of the content creators should be eligible to create a subscription model. I am really curious to see what the requirements are for this.
In the meantime, let us go and find out more!
Where is the Monetization Option?
Head over to your twitter account, and click on 'More'
Then choose 'settings and support'
Click 'monetization' to the menu option
You can always simply go to: https://twitter.com/settings/superfollows/application/eligibility
When I checked my eligibility, I saw that I was not over 18 years old :) Nice, huh!
Let's see how and how quickly we will fix it.
To add your birth date, you will need to do it from your profile page.
https://twitter.com/settings/profile
Attention
When you add your date, you get the option to choose who will be able to see the month/day and/or year
Make sure you set the right settings!
I checked again and I am still not eligible, so I guess that it will take sometime until the system sees the date. I may even be asked to confirm it.
I will come back to update this post if I achieve eligibility.
Let's see what Twitter Offers:
After creating your subscription settings, then you will be able to give special badges to your subscribers, share bonus content with them as well as personal replies.
Slide the ruler to see how much you could potentially earn if a percentage of your followers decided to subscribe & support you
So, are you in?
Will you apply for this new feature?
Will you add your birthdate in order to become eligible?
Let me know in the comments!
The age was confirmed 10 minutes later so I was able to proceed to the application.
I am asked to confirm I am over 18 and it is now required to set up 2 factor authentication.
It turns out that there are 3 different methods, out of which the first one is only available for twitter blue accounts.
After you have finished, you will be asked to fill in a form with these information
What kind of content categories do you create?
Which platforms do you share your content on?
What is your planned usage?
I responded to all of these and now I will simply be waiting!
Stay tuned for the update :)
