Recently, the prestigious magazine National Geographic released a news item that may surprise many people, but certainly not me: it recognises a treasure in a formidable 13th century Romanesque church, located in a town in Guadalajara called Carabias, that unfortunately no one visits. It is the church of Saint Salvator.

Majestic and above all, full of mysterious paths, in some of which, after centuries, you can still find traces of the ancient Roman roads that date back to the time of the so-called ‘Cantabrian Wars’ that so interested Adolph Schulten, the mountains of the Councils of Quirós and Teverga also seduce with the picturesqueness of small rural communities, simple villages, in many cases, which, however, are also a true cultural treasure to discover.

Huesca and its Magic: not only the landscape, diverse like few others, has, in those impressive formations that receive the curious name of Mallos, one of the most representative geological examples that Nature, surpassing itself, is an unequalled and at the same time, inimitable artist, but also contains such a wide and meritorious wealth, such as, without a doubt, the unique picturesqueness of its towns, as well as the notable variety and quality of an architecture, the Romanesque, which, without a doubt, leaves a deep impression on the soul.

I love my city, that immortal Madrid, whose skies were eternally reflected in the metaphysical scenes of a painter of Greek origin, who, although he officially worked at the Court, was never really liked by that Catholic king, born in Valladolid and who died in his private rooms at the Monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial, Philip II, who is said to have had the enigmatic painting by Bosch, ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’, next to his bed, present throughout his painful agony: Domeniko Teotokopuli, The Greek.

Villaviciosa, the former municipality of Maliayo, is more than just a first-class natural paradise: it is also a cultural paradise, where ancestral architecture, both pre-Romanesque and Romanesque, continues to surprise with its beauty, its mystery and because, contrary to what still stands throughout the Principality of Asturias, its commendable state of conservation is surprising, both on one side and the other of that source of charisma and vitality, which is, of course, its extraordinary estuary.

Like Sangüesa, the neighbouring town of Javier also has its own small medieval cemetery, which often goes completely unnoticed by the many visitors who visit the place, especially outside the city walls, at that nerve centre of devotion and also of pilgrimage, which is its castle and the added basilica.
