Native dreams

Another piece I carved last summer. Straight from my imagination. I was going to a show called "Carving at the Casino" and I knew the native themed pieces sell so I decided to carve something different.
Definitely out of my comfort zone but I enjoy the challenges.

Here is the log just as I was getting started, just found her face at this point. Started raining so I had make it quick to remove enough wood to move her with the hand cart.

Of course, as soon as I move her, the sun emerges.
Blocking more out continues...

You can now see the hawk, or start to anyway.

Did some sanding on her face in between carving..

Here she is with the saw work done and partially sanded.

Didn't have to detail her much more at this point..it was time for fire.

Some gif torch action...
Burned her more than usual to soften up and raise the grain.

Scraped the char off, she is now ready for color.

All finished..

Carved out the backside of her head with a moonshot.
"Native dreams" was a perfect name for her, she was dreaming of flying as a hawk.

Faces are probably the most difficult for me to carve but I'm getting better with practice. Still have alot to learn.

I hope you enjoy seeing what I "saw"
