“That's the funny thing about trying to escape. You never really can. Maybe temporarily, but not completely.”
― Jennifer L. Armentrout
During lockdown - well "HARD" lockdown (as technically we are still under lockdown here in South Africa)... I had a lot going on in my life. My moms health was failing fast and my hone nursing skills were tested to their maximum. That coupled with the new lifestyle of full time home schooling, being the full time maid as well as still trying to continue with all of my usual "mom" and "life in general" responsibilities - not to mention the (all too familiar) emotional and psychological effects of months of cabin fever... I found myself feeling utterly depleted and looking for an "out".
Whilst I have always dabbled in various creatives fields and even attended my moms classes for a couple of years - the only REAL creative field I was ever completely consumed by was my career passion of graphic design and desktop publishing... and the piano! However, I will say that during this time, I started to "doodle" on my phone and the more I did it... the more I enjoyed it. It was a momentary escape. It allowed me to express and release. Much like writing has always done, but at that point in time I did not even have energy enough to write. It was incredibly good food for my soul.
On Sundays, I generally make use of the #showcase-sunday opportunity and tag and whilst I was not going to post all my "scribbles" as entirely separate posts - I started going through them - somewhat recalling the mental and emotional state I found myself in with each and every one and thought I would just put them all into one #showcase-sunday post.
If you are not familiar with the tag #showcase-sunday - it is an opportunity for you to re-publish something of yours which you feel is worth sharing again.
I do not consider myself any great shakes when it comes to painting or drawing, but it is something I enjoy greatly! So whether you watch the videos or not - appreciate them or not... I suppose this was more about me taking a little trip down that road again - appreciating that I am still standing.
