Last Friday was a school holiday for my son's school as well as other Chinese school in conjunction with Ching Ming Festival where people who celebrate or believe in this festival will commemorate their ancestors by cleaning the tomb as well as to burn some items to be 'delivered' to the ancestors. I took the opportunity on this special school holiday to visit my Aunt. Of course, she cooked a meal for us too, as usual.
Visiting Aunt
My children had not come to see her the past two weekends, so they made it a point to come. Eldest son was in super great spirit due to the extra school holiday. It had been a tiring week for him at school. The boys got to play at Aunt's place, just chilling around. Let's see what my Aunt had cooked. She cooked three dishes for us.
Pan Fried Chicken Fillet
Another week of happiness because she cooked our favourite food — pan fried chicken fillet. She knows how to make the chicken breast tender, soft. And she marinated well, before coated with a bit of bread crumbs and brought to pan fry. Super delicious that the boys ate these for their lunch, no rice and nothing else.!!
Sweet preserved vegetables with slices pork
This was one of her yummy Hakka dishes. This time, she used the sweet preserved vegetables instead of the salty one. For the pork, she used a mixture of pork belly and lean pork so that the created some sort of balance when cooked with the vegetables. Very appetising dish. The boys had yet to enjoy this dish, so only my Aunt and I enjoyed it with rice. The boys were still eating their chicken fillet.
Mixed vegetables with prawns
I super love my Aunt's mixed vegetables because she was generous with prawns. The prawns were so fresh and when cooked with the vegetables, it gave that natural seafood sweetness to the whole dish. The vegetables she used this round were red, green and yellow bell pepper, baby corns and mushrooms. Super flavourful. Yums!
This round, we were not rushed at all to go home because I did not have tutoring job that day. Therefore, we got to sit down and chit-chatted for awhile before we went home. Aunt was always glad and happy to see the boys. She said it is good to have children's voices at home, making the home very merry.
Visiting My Brother
It was a super relaxed day for me with no tutoring job, so I requested my husband to take care of the boys and their dinner while I went to visit my brother after I had my own fast dinner. He also just started a small side business which is renting a vending machine and places it at his condominium lobby, and I couldn't wait to buy one cN of coffee there. I wished many people come to buy drinks and small snacks from this vending machine daily. When he came down to lobby to pick me, Insaw an Oppa, he permed his hair and now he is 100% looking like a Korean. Haha!
My brother and his wife were still eating dinner when I reached, so I played with their pet instead. Moogle is 5-month old and she is so adorable. The last when we came, she was still shy and now, she is brave and could play with me without any restrain. Halfway playing, suddenly she felt sleepy and dozed off to nap. So beautiful. My brother and his wife love pet. Besides the kitten, they also have a gecko and a guinea pig. What a warm cosy house full of animals. I got to spend one hour plus there with them, just catching up about life.
It was already not too early at 9:20pm and I needed to make my move so that I could reach home before 10pm. I knew the boys would wait for me at home before they went to bed. It was a fulfilling Friday. We were happy that we got to spend some time with Aunt and I was happy that I got to visit my brother and his wife. Sometimes, a rare school holiday like this was needed, for us all to have some time off from daily routine.
