In Aceh, every moment before Ramadan, Eid al-Adha, and even before Eid al-Fitr, there is one tradition that is always awaited and maintained from generation to generation: Meugang. This tradition is not just about eating meat together, it is a symbol of togetherness, respect for ancestors, and gratitude that is manifested in the form of cooking and friendship.

For the people of Aceh, Meugang is a time to go home, to gather, and to reminisce. The markets are filled with a unique atmosphere: fresh meat hanging in rows, the sound of bargaining, and warm faces filled with enthusiasm.

Every frame carries meaning. Every lens can be a witness to how cultural heritage lives on, even though times continue to change.

In the midst of the onslaught of the digital era and modernization, Meugang still survives. Not only as an annual ritual, but as a reminder: that culture is not only to be remembered, but to be brought to life and retold through stories that take place today.
