@family&friends, to make a small tribute to that being who has given everything to make her children progress in life and be good people in this society.
I am referring of course to my mother, because next Sunday is Mother's Day.

Con mucho agrado escribo esta publicación, siguiendo la iniciativa propuesta por la comunidad de
@family&friends, para hacer un pequeño homenaje a ese ser que ha entregado todo para lograr que sus hijos progresen en la vida y sean personas de bien dentro de esta sociedad.
Me refiero por supuesto a mi madre, por conmemorarse el próximo domingo el dia de las madres.

I will begin my publication by answering the questions posed in this initiative:
- Nice memories of some Mother's Day holiday.
The first memory that comes to my mind goes back to my elementary school days. My mom had a Singer sewing machine, one of those that used a foot pedal to operate, and I always saw her sewing until late at night, mending our clothes, because she loved sewing.
I wanted to give her a pair of scissors that I had seen in the corner bodega, because I knew she needed them and since I had no money, I set out to collect them for several weeks, until I managed to buy them. At that time, if I remember correctly, they cost me five bolivars. It was the first gift that with my effort I bought her and that is why it is engraved in my memory.

El primer recuerdo que viene a mi mente se remonta a mi época de estudiante de primaria. Mi mamá tenia una máquina de coser marca Singer, de esas que usaban pedal para funcionar, y siempre la veia cosiendo hasta altas horas de la noche, arreglándonos la ropa, porque a ella le gustaba mucho la costura.
Yo quería regalarle unas tijeras que había visto en la bodega de la esquina, porque sabía que las necesitaba y como no tenía dinero, me dispuse a reunir por varias semanas, hasta que logré comprarlas. En ese entonces, si mal no recuerdo, me costaron cinco bolívares. Fue el primer regalo que con mi esfuerzo le compraba y por eso se me grabó en la memoria.
- Is there any family tradition to celebrate this day?
The only tradition, so to speak, is that on this day my siblings and I usually get together at my mom's house and we each bring something tasty to share. We bring her some gifts, but she always tells us that her greatest gift is to see us united and healthy. When the grandchildren were little they were in charge of bringing the gift and they would parade one by one to give it to grandma.
Today the grandchildren are grown up and most of them are out of the country and their gift is a congratulatory phone call.
- ¿Existe alguna tradición familiar para celebrar este dia?
La única tradición, por así decirlo, es que ese día mis hermanos y yo acostumbramos reunirnos en casa de mi mamá y cada uno lleva algo sabroso para compartir. Le llevamos algunos obsequios, pero siempre nos dice que su mayor regalo es vernos unidos y saludables. Cuando los nietos estaban pequeños eran los encargados de llevar el regalo e iban desfilando uno por uno para entregárselo a la abuela.
Hoy día los nietos ya crecieron y la mayoría están fuera del país y su regalo es una llamada de felicitación.
- What's the best gift I could give my mom?
All her children agree that Mother's Day was invented by a shopkeeper. It's a day when people go crazy looking for a gift at the last minute, because they didn't have time during the week to buy it. However, the rest of the year they don't even remember to give their mom a call to see how she is doing.
There will never be a better gift for my mother and for all mothers around the world than the love and dedication shown to her by her children in return for the lifetime of sacrifice she made to raise that family.
At present my mother is about to turn 99 years old, she has many health problems, but her mind is more lucid than mine. The years weigh her down so much that she gets tired when she takes a few steps and even when she eats. But she, without saying it, feels very satisfied to have raised with sacrifice, four men and two women and turn them into professionals, in spite of not having sufficient economic resources. It is our commitment as children, to be aware not only of their nutrition and health, but to give them all the love they need to be happy.

- ¿Cual es el mejor regalo que le pudiera dar a mi mamá?
Todos sus hijos coincidimos en que el día de las madres lo inventó un comerciante. Es un día donde la gente anda como loca buscando el regalo a última hora, porque no tuvo tiempo en la semana para comprarlo. Sin embargo, el resto del año ni se acuerdan de darle una llamada a su mamá para ver como se encuentra.
Nunca habrá mejor regalo para mi madre y para todas las madres del mundo, que el amor y la dedicación que le demuestran los hijos en compensación a toda esa vida de sacrificio que llevó para levantar esa familia.
En la actualidad mi mamá está próxima a cumplir 99 años de vida, se encuentra con muchos problemas de salud, pero su mente está mas lúcida que la mía. Ya los años le pesan tanto que se cansa cuando da unos pasos y hasta cuando come. Pero ella, sin decirlo, se siente muy satisfecha de haber levantado con sacrificio, a cuatro hombres y dos mujeres y convertirlos en profesionales, a pesar de no haber contado con suficientes recursos económicos. Es nuestro compromiso como hijos, estar pendientes no solo de su alimentación y salud, sino da brindarle todo el amor que necesita para estar feliz.
