The New Herb garden from the west side
I thought I’d get a before shot of the garden, pre-weeding and prep and planting. It’s in much better shape this spring than for several years at this time.
Because each row is 37’ long, when I take a photo from one end, it’s too far to see the other end well. I will just list the plants, skipping the weeds.
Row 1, from the east end..........................to the west end
From the east end: Roman wormwood, woad, wormwood
Yup, plenty of cleaning out needed.
Row 2, from the east end..........................to the west end
From the east end: soapwort, blue flax, tansy
A lot of plants either haven’t come up yet, or are still too small to see in the photos.
Row 3, from the east end..........................to the west end
From the east end: spearmint, red and lavender bee balms, salad burnet
I have a lot of annual herbs started inside. If it ever stays in the upper 40’s at night, I can move them to the cold frame to harden off.
Row 4, from the east end..........................to the west end
From the east end: arnica, peppermint, echinacea paradoxa, winter savory
There’s a lot of weeding needing done, especially in the peppermint bed.
Row 5, from the east end..........................to the west end
From the east end: hyssop, sage, pineapple mint
On Tuesday I have to do the first mowing of the yard. I was supposed to do it on Sunday but the rain…
Row 6, from the east end..........................to the west end
From the east end: lady’s mantle, chives, hyssop, thyme
I still can’t believe how well the thyme did this year. I’ve not yet gotten the ginger planted, so I don’t know if there will be ginger this year.
Row 7, from the east end..........................to the west end
From the east end: echinacea purpurea, lupine, oregano, garlic chives, marjoram, yarrow
I am shifting some of the plants to new rows. The echinacea purpurea is moving to the east end of row 3, the ginger and hoophouse to the west end of Row 2.
So that’s the state of things in this garden the end of April 2023.
