¡Bienvenidos amigos de Hive! Hoy vamos a darle un toque festivo y acogedor a nuestra habitación con un proyecto especial: un edredón navideño hecho a mano. Este diseño utiliza la técnica de unión de cuadros y tiras, y lo mejor es que es reversible.
Aunque utilicé un diseño navideño, este puede ser reemplazado por telas con diferentes estampados o colores, la técnica es la misma y el resultado será igual de bonito, todo esta en tu imaginación.
Para comenzar con este proyecto, necesitarás los siguientes materiales:
- Telas para sábanas.
- Tela para el revés.
- Hilo resistente.
- Agujas.
- Tijeras de tela.
- Máquina de coser.
- Plancha.
Para este proyecto, tomaremos como referencia una cama de 1.90 m de largo por 1.30 m de ancho, o lo que se conoce en mi país como cama matrimonial.
Como primer paso se deben de cortar todos los cuadrados que llenarán los espacios de la cama, para la medida que estoy haciendo (matrimonial) corta 24 rectángulos de tela estampada de 30 cm x 28 cm cada uno.
Cuando terminemos, debemos proceder con las tiras o franjas que separan cada cuadro y que también le aportan estructura al diseño. Corta tiras de 8 cm de ancho con las siguientes longitudes:
3 tiras de 1.90 m (para el largo).
5 tiras de 1.30 m (para el ancho).
Una vez que tengas listo estos primeros pasos, se debe de comenzar con el armado del edredón, para ello, comienza uniendo los primeros cuatro rectángulos a las franjas verticales.
Una vez tengas las columnas, sobrepóne las franjas horizontales. Te recomiendo hilvanar (hacer una costura a mano temporal) poco a poco antes de pasar la máquina. Esto evita que las telas se corran y asegura que las esquinas coincidan perfectamente. También puedes hacer esto sobre el colchón para que puedas guiarte con el mismo.
Repite el proceso línea por línea hasta completar el cuerpo del edredón.
Una vez que tengas toda la pieza armada, es vital planchar todas las costuras para que queden planas. Para un acabado más profesional y para definir bien los cuadros, realiza una costura de refuerzo por el derecho de la tela sobre las uniones.
Si deseas que tu edredón tenga un faldón elegante que cubra los laterales de la cama, sigue este cálculo:
Mide el contorno de la cama (Largo + Largo + Ancho + Ancho). En mi caso la sumatoria de todos los lados fue de 6.40 metros.
Luego, corta una tira de un poco más de 6.40 m de largo por el alto deseado (en este ejemplo, 30 cm).
Continua con el arruche o plisa de toda la tela hasta que coincida con la medida del borde del edredón.
Cuando tengas listo la plisa, continúa cortando la tela del revés con la misma medida total que la pieza frontal que acabas de armar. En este caso no vamos a hacer los cuadros, por el contrario vamos a dejar una sola pieza lisa.
Continúa colocando el faldón ya plisado entre las dos capas de tela (la frontal y la del revés), asegurándose de que los derechos de las telas se toquen.
Cose por todo el contorno (lados y parte delantera), dejando una pequeña abertura de unos 20 cm sin coser.
Voltea todo el edredón a través de esa abertura para que el derecho quede hacia afuera.
Por último, cierra la abertura con una costura invisible a mano o si lo deseas una costura muy fina a máquina.
Dale una última pasada con la plancha para asentar el faldón y las orillas. ¡Listo! Ya tienes un cobertor doble vista, prolijo y muy bello para decorar tu hogar.

Welcome, Hive friends! Today we're going to give our room a festive and cozy touch with a special project: a handmade Christmas quilt. This design uses the patchwork technique, and the best part is that it's reversible.
Although I used a Christmas design, this can be replaced with fabrics with different patterns or colors. The technique is the same, and the result will be just as beautiful. It's all up to your imagination.
To get started on this project, you will need the following materials:
- Fabric for sheets.
- Fabric for the reverse side.
- Strong thread.
- Needles.
- Fabric scissors.
- Sewing machine.
- Iron.
For this project, we will use a bed measuring 1.90 m long by 1.30 m wide as a reference, or what is known in my country as a double bed.
The first step is to cut out all the squares that will fill the spaces on the bed. For the size I am making (double), cut 24 rectangles of patterned fabric, each measuring 30 cm x 28 cm.
When we are done, we must proceed with the strips or fringes that separate each square and also give structure to the design. Cut strips 8 cm wide with the following lengths:
3 strips of 1.90 m (for the length).
5 strips of 1.30 m (for the width).
Once you have completed these first steps, you can begin assembling the quilt. To do this, start by joining the first four rectangles to the vertical strips.
Once you have the columns, overlap the horizontal strips. I recommend basting (making a temporary hand stitch) little by little before sewing with the machine. This prevents the fabrics from shifting and ensures that the corners match perfectly. You can also do this on the mattress so that you can use it as a guide.
Repeat the process line by line until you have completed the body of the quilt.
Once you have assembled the entire piece, it is essential to iron all the seams so that they lie flat. For a more professional finish and to define the squares well, sew a reinforcement seam on the right side of the fabric over the joins.
If you want your comforter to have an elegant skirt that covers the sides of the bed, follow this calculation:
Measure the circumference of the bed (Length + Length + Width + Width). In my case, the sum of all sides was 6.40 meters.
Then, cut a strip a little over 6.40 m long by the desired height (in this example, 30 cm).
Continue gathering or pleating the entire fabric until it matches the measurement of the edge of the comforter.
Once you have the pleat ready, continue cutting the fabric inside out with the same total measurement as the front piece you just assembled. In this case, we are not going to make the squares; instead, we are going to leave a single smooth piece.
Continue by placing the pleated skirt between the two layers of fabric (the front and the reverse), making sure that the right sides of the fabrics are touching.
Sew around the entire outline (sides and front), leaving a small opening of about 20 cm unsewn.
Turn the entire quilt through this opening so that the right side is facing out.
Finally, close the opening with an invisible hand stitch or, if you prefer, a very fine machine stitch.
Give it a final iron to settle the skirt and edges. That's it! You now have a neat and beautiful double-sided cover to decorate your home.
