I don't have pets yet but wonder sometimes how so many seem to go missing. There are several cats and dogs in my neighborhood that go missing every year. For outdoor cats they have a risk of coyotes or traffic or just finding a neighbor that feed them but thinks it's a stray. For dogs if they are off lease them running away is a risk so I don't understand why dogs are let off lease in open areas. Maybe an air tag on a collar would help track them down
And lastly I suppose some people see a friendly dog or cat and just say "mine" and take the pet in their car and drive off. Pets are expensive so I understand in theory why someone would be motivated to do that. Tragic for the families with missing pets. Let's hope they also post on Facebook and Reddit in the local groups to help find their pets.
