Went out to harvest in the morning yesterday and got a few squash that went to the cooler. The turkeys are assholes. Some refuse to go in the coop and something is coming and picking them off at night. One was hit and left in the middle of the farm.Where it got picked at by the other birds and ravens. A nice handful of cucumbers from the greenhouse went into the house. The beans had a couple pounds from the meager couple of rows. I'm fine with the minimal beans this year compared to the prior years. Then I headed down to my IFS appointment which is doing me well each week. I was back well before noon and by noon was in the potato garden digging the next row. It gave me 18.5 pounds of yellows which got washed and laid out to dry on the deck. With it a cooler day in the low 80s F I packed up all my tubs and my spud fork and headed to the upper garden. It was a SUPREME mess as I have not been up there much this year. The weeds had taken over each spot and made finding the spots a bit tricky. I pulled all the plants from the first 4 rows and pulled any potatoes from them before tossing t
The start of over 200 pounds dug today and holy shit am I sore. Over 600 pounds potatoes so far and just shy 1k overall.
Something crawled in and ate the chicks in the brooder hut and we found them yesterday morning in pieces. What else is new. Whatever it is comes up from the creek. Going to set traps tonight.A few nicer squash were ready and went to the cooler. Then I washed the potatoes that I had dug the prior afternoon and got them drying on the deck.So I went back to the pole garden and pulled the plants then the plastic aside on the remaining parts of the rows. The first row filled the two baskets for 31 pounds which went to the deck and got washed and laid out to dry. The last of the pole garden rows gave me a couple heavier baskets for 38 pounds. To the deck, washed, and laid out to dry as well after sorting the prior. The olympics is on the US got trounced by France, which was kind of a f
Mas patatas. Mucho mucho mas. Nearly 90lbs and over 400 so far. 8 more plants came down to hang and I got another head of cauliflower. Thankfully the real heat has abated.
I had to add a bunch of time to the frees dryer to get the peas a ll fully dried yesterday. The shells did just fine but the peas themselves were being stubborn. I think it only sat a couple hours before I was up and got it opened and defrosting. All the trays came out perfect and I got them all into a bag. I still need to put into mylar with oxy pads. The summer squash had 4 pounds for me and I've only picked 45 pounds so far which is a far cry from the 135 pounds I had by this time last year. Since I'm not pushing for sales this is far more manageable for us.7 cucumbers were ready and the smaller plants are starting to get a lot bigger faster.I had my dentist appointment which was just a cleaning and nicely nothing had changed with my teeth since the last time I was in. I have fillings scheduled for a couple of weeks.Back in the pole garden mid day I was digging potatoes again. I finished off the row I had started which gave me over 30 pounds. Washed and drying on the deck. They ended up going to boxes and the house a bit later.![IMG_20240723_131530.jpg](
Some harvests then dentist for a cleaning. Then it was potato digging time again and got over 60 pounds. I am so sore and soaking helped some but not enough. And to think I still have many hundreds of feet to dig.
