The little details capture Setsuko as a true four-year-old: the way she holds her chopsticks, her curiosity to play with some things she doesn't know and that innocent perspective on the world, that innocence of hers makes everything happen in the movie was even more heartbreaking . At one point Seita is seen catching a bubble under a towel to pop it on her little sister's face while they bathe, she laughs and enjoys the moment but ... Does this scene add something to the plot? Not at all, but without that moment of happiness, this would not be the real world, a world that could be destroyed by bombing in war.
