Yep, its pretty beautiful out here. This is our counterparts on the skiff tour, in front of a hanging glacier. This morning we took our guests aboard the expedition ship Safari Explorer, deep into Kenai Fjords National Park, here in Alaska. It was day 1 of our brand new Aleutian Islands itinerary, where we spend 10 days going from Seward to Dutch Harbor. We will travel more than 800 miles, explore countless bays, share hiking trails with massive bears, and trade coastal temperate rainforest for wind strewn tundra.
High above the little town of Cordova, 1000+ ft up on tripod hill. Eyak lake spreads out below, and the beginning of the Copper River Delta stretches out to the far horizon. With a population of less than three thousand, and no road access at all, the tiny town of Cordova is seldom visited by tourists. However, we are no ordinary cruise ship. Here on the Safari Explorer, we want to take our guests off the beaten track. Usually we stay out in the wilderness, however, the town of Cordova is too good to pass up.
All this ice is not going to be easy to get through, but we've gotta get closer to the glacier, so here we go!Stuck in the ice, and loving it, at Chenega Glacier. Chenega Glacier is located in Nassau Fjord, towards the southwest corner of Prince William Sound in Alaska. The closest port is Whittier, but we arrived from Seward after driving through the night. Because of its remote location, we don't usually see any other boats while we are here. Today was the same, as we had the whole fjord to ourselves. We also had perfect kayaking conditions, with not a drop of wind. We even had sun shining down, which made up for the otherwise frigid temperature outside.
Had a great leg-burner hike today, climbing the 1,250ft ski hill in Cordova, Alaska to a place called TriPod point. The views were incredible. This report was published via Actifit app (Android). Check out the original version here on actifit.io26/05/202515530Hiking
Another beautiful sky behind the Safari Explorer, my home for the next four weeks. I like the way the colors reflect off the window. Two Dall's porpoises escort the Safari Explorer to the beautiful Alaskan town of Seward. A few days ago I flew into Anchorage and drove down to meet my expedition cruise ship near Seward, Alaska. We spent a few days in the JAG shipyard, getting the boat all ready for our big Alaska season. We are running seven day trips into Prince William Sound, and ten day trips past Kodiak and Katmai, all the way to Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands. Both of these trips will be starting in the picturesque coastal town of Seward, Alaska.
No bears and no moose, which was nice since I was hiking alone in the Alaskan wilderness near Seward. This report was published via Actifit app (Android). Check out the original version here on actifit.io22/05/202512326Hiking
