Guess we got ducks now

Well, it has been a very long time since my last post. A lot has been happening in our lives over the last few months. Theo is almost a year old and he is on the move.

Last night as I was doing some yard work in the back, my daughter let me know that there was a duck eating the bird seed in the front yard. We have never had a duck in the yard, so I had to see it.

We have a canal near our home that we walk along each day and there are a few ducks that have made it their home. Towards the end of spring, those ducks usually have a few ducklings that are born as well.

Our daughter's friend released a couple ducks in the canal years ago and ever since then, they seemed to have returned. At least I think it is them. Hard to tell since they all look alike.

We continued to throw food to the duck and it kept coming back and eating it. It was pretty fun since we had never had a duck come into our yard before. We have had all sorts of birds, but never a duck.

A few years back, I had given up on trying to control the dandelions that grow in our yard. I used to think they were ugly, but now I love them. I love that they attract so many bees and other pollinators to our yard. Plus the yellow flowers are really cool looking. It is also noice to see more people in the neighborhood accepting them and letting them grow in their yard as well.

The lighting was really cool last night as the duck just laid in our yard and ate the seeds that had fallen onto the ground from the bird feeder.

As it was laying there, I was able to crawl closer and closer to get these shots. My shorts were covered in yellow spots from the dandelions.

I think the duck started to get a bit curious of me as I was getting closer. It seemed interested in what I was doing.

I guess I got a bit too close and spooked it. About an hour later, we looked out front and the duck had come back with a female duck. So I am guessing that this couple may be the ones that our daughter's friend had let loose a few years back. I am hoping that they return to our yard each day and get a snack. It would be really cool if they came back to the yard with their babies once they hatch. Its been a lot of fun seeing them each year and it was really cool having them visit our yard.
