2020 Great Backyard Bird Count Results

2020-02-24T02:38:21
Welcome back. The 2020 GBBC is in the books. It's always amazing to look at the count results on the website. The numbers are updated in real time. As I write this, over 232,000 checklists have been submitted worldwide, and roughly 6700 species have been observed.
In my county in NY State, 41 species were obseved by 15 participants. I observed 13 of the 41 species.
The species I observed at my feeders are as follows, and are quite typical for central NY State in February.
Mourning Dove
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Blue Jay
Black-Capped Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-Breasted Nuthatch
European Starling
House Sparrow
House Finch
American Goldfinch
Dark=Eyed Junco
Northern Cardinal
Why Count Birds?
Scientists use information from the Great Backyard Bird Count along with observations from other citizen-science projects
for various reasons, including:
How climate changes is affecting bird populations.
Tracking bird disease.
And much more.
So I hope you had a chance to paricipate, and if not, there is always next year.
Thanks for reading.
