I just returned from a 30-minute stroll around the city, walking from the South Beach Road area to the Singapore River. It was a refreshing bit of exercise that I had been craving since the start of the week. I felt like I'd been stuck at my desk for so long that the need for a good, long walk had become urgent, lol. Tonight's walk made me appreciate my surroundings more. Seeing the popular sites from a different vantage point made me realize that even a familiar view can reveal a new kind of beauty.
My stroll began when I alighted at the Esplanade MRT station and exited on the South Beach Road side. This exit is closest to Raffles City, which was my intended destination for the evening. Originally, I had planned to visit Jurong Lake Gardens in the mid-afternoon, but due to uncooperative weather, I had to postpone that and find another spot in the city worth exploring at night.
I’ve never really explored the interior of the South Beach development, though I often notice the wavy design of its roof from a distance. The area has a nice upscale vibe and seems like a great spot to find some fancy restaurants and bars.
I didn’t plan to dine there, so I headed toward the Beach Road side of the building. The building is well-designed and easy to navigate, with everything arranged along a straight line and plenty of signs to guide you.
On the side of the road, there’s a huge metal sculpture that made me pause and reflect on what it might represent or mean. I couldn’t figure it out, but it was intriguing enough for me to appreciate its scale and construction.
From there, I decided to walk along Beach Road towards the Bras Basah Road area.
Along the way, I managed to photograph some interesting architecture that caught my eye, featuring a mix of traditional and modern designs. I’ve always been fascinated by buildings with artistic elements.
Somewhere along Beach Road is the Raffles Hotel, one of the most elegantly designed buildings in the area. It’s named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore, and the famous Singapore Sling cocktail was invented in the hotel's Long Bar.
After admiring the beauty of this building, I decided to continue toward the City Hall area. At the intersection of Bras Basah Road and Beach Road, I came across an interesting setup: the War Memorial Tower alongside the towers of the Raffles City shopping mall.
After briefly exploring the area, I headed to St. Andrew's Road and walked toward the National Gallery Singapore. I chose this route to catch a glimpse of the classically designed building that once housed the former Supreme Court.
This classically designed building is one of the finest legacies of the British colonial era. It continues to be admired today and has become a cherished landmark in the city.
After taking enough photos of the surroundings, I made my way to the Singapore River, hoping to capture the cityscape while the sky was still perfectly blue. I was thrilled that my timing was spot-on and that I managed to photograph my stroll while the lighting was still excellent.
My evening stroll through the city was a delightful reminder of the beauty and charm that surrounds us. From the elegant architecture to the vibrant atmosphere, each moment offered a unique perspective on the familiar. I look forward to more adventures and discoveries in this dynamic city that never ceases to inspire me.
