The prevention of crimes related to the normal development of minors is, at the very least, a responsibility for everyone. To this day, this terrible scourge remains present in the daily life of any city. This post on the topic is motivated by the real statistics from the municipality of Bartolomé Masó in 2024 and so far in 2025.
In both years, cases of child abuse or sexual assault have been increasing. It is not about the numbers that I want to share, but rather my concern about the low risk perception among families regarding prevention issues related to minors. Often, parents and guardians see as normal that person who every day gives candy to the girl who is beginning to develop, perhaps because it is a neighbor, a close friend, a stepfather, or the uncle who has started visiting the house more than before. The scenarios can be diverse. In Cuba, there is zero tolerance, and punishment for those who abuse minors is immediate.
In all the cases I have known, they are related to the lack of awareness among families and legal guardians of minors regarding an issue that is evident in many cases, although in others it is carried out in a concealed manner. But in any scenario, it leaves incurable trauma on the minors who become victims.
Another issue is that of adolescent pregnancies. Although ages vary and there are different stages to define the concept of adolescence, the most concerning are pregnancies in girls under 18 years old. At this age, they are not prepared to be mothers, neither physically nor psychologically.
On this latter issue, the causes of pregnancy stem, as I mentioned before, from family acceptance. In not a few cases, parents accept that their daughters have sexual relationships with older men; sometimes, unfortunately, they see them as the person who helps solve their economic problems. And although they are adolescents and minors, the parents, ignoring or unaware of the laws in force in Cuba, allow these relationships to become formalized. In other cases, pregnancies arise from carelessness in the use of contraceptive methods or from a lack of knowledge about their use.

La prevención de los delitos relacionados con el normal desarrollo de los menores es, cuando menos, una responsabilidad de todos. Al día de hoy, este terrible flagelo mantiene presencia en la vida cotidiana de cualquier ciudad. Este post sobre el tema está motivado por las estadísticas reales del municipio Bartolomé Masó en 2024 y lo que va de 2025.
En ambos años, los casos de abuso a menores o de violaciones han ido incrementándose. No es cuestión de cifras lo que quiero compartir, sino mi preocupación por la baja percepción del riesgo de las familias en temas de prevención asociados a los menores. A menudo, los padres y tutores ven como normal a esa persona que todos los días le regala un caramelo a la niña que está empezando a desarrollarse, quizás porque es un vecino, un amigo allegado, el padrastro o el tío que, más que antes, empezó a visitar la casa. Los escenarios pueden ser diversos. En Cuba existe tolerancia cero, y el castigo a las personas que abusan de los menores es inmediato.
En todos los casos que he conocido, se relacionan con esa falta de visión de las familias y tutores legales de los menores en torno a un tema tan evidente en muchos casos, aunque en otros se porta de forma solapada. Pero que, en cualquier variante, deja traumas incurables en los menores que resultan víctimas.
Otro tema es el de las adolescentes que resultan embarazadas. Aunque las edades son diversas y existen varias etapas para determinar ese concepto de adolescencia, las más preocupantes son las embarazadas menores de 18 años. A esta edad no se está preparado para ser madres, ni física ni psicológicamente.
Sobre este último tema, las variantes de embarazo parten, como dije antes, de la aceptación de las familias. En no pocos casos, los padres aceptan que sus hijas tengan relaciones sexuales con hombres mayores; en ocasiones, lamentablemente, lo ven como la persona que les ayuda a resolver los problemas económicos. Y aunque son adolescentes y menores de edad, los padres, ignorando o desconociendo las leyes vigentes en Cuba, aceptan que estas relaciones se formalicen. En otros casos, los embarazos surgen del descuido en el uso de los métodos anticonceptivos o del desconocimiento de su uso.
