It is still amazing to me the amount of fresh produce we can find literally right outside our door. A few weeks ago, I posted about the citrus we have readily available around our neighborhood. We even have about 10 cups worth of fresh squeezed juice in our freezer waiting to be made into lemonade. Today, I wanted to introduce you to some of the other produce that we can find when we go out for walks.

One thing that we have in our neighborhood in Volcan, Panama is citrus. Lots and lots of lemons, limes and oranges. Free for the taking, watered by rain! What could be better? I recently picked these lemons and limes from our trees as I was mowing the lawn. I wasn't even able to reach or carry all of the ones I could find. One tree still had a lot of limes on them, but I knew I already had more than enough! I'm going to have to start creating recipes to use these in other than making lemonade every day!

This year Volcan will be hosting the Tierras Altas Flower Festival again! We went last year and it was a weekend full of flowers and fun! I highly encourage this event if you are in the area! The activities for preparing for the Flower Festival have already started. The people are out preparing flowers for the sides of the road, painting trash cans, and putting the floats together. The events take place on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday of this week, and there is a full schedule (which you can see below or read the translation below).

Oftentimes when people move to Panama, they think the only option is Panama City. They are looking for private schools for their children, entertainment, and good shopping. However, these conveniences are available in other parts of the country as well.

Every Friday I attend two local markets in my town. One is a great place to meet other expats in the area and the other is a great place to get organic produce. I am happy that I live in a town that enables me to easily do both on the same day!
