**Honest Lies**
“I like your music.”
Of course it wasn't really about the music. It was her voice, the sweet tones that matched her face, her long lashes that fluttered, the way she constantly looked down and away when she spoke.
She lounged in my rocking chair in her panda hat, black wig, and patched jean jacket, the foot on one long bare leg twitching in time as we browsed her creations on YouTube.
She hinted about Valentine's Day. She said that she liked steak, took me shopping at the grocery store and looked at the flowers. I didn't say anything. I kept my cards close.
Her music isn't bad. Her voice is lovely. But it's her sweet self that I like.
Later, I carried the carved stick she had found when wandering around town. At her front gate, I begged a hug, and told my honest lies.
