Bare Branches Beauty

I’m finally catching up with the Downtown Doodle Afterglow challenge, which is that great initiative by Allyson for the community. This time the prompt is bare branches, and u can see I really put in the effort to draw all those tiny, reaching twigs.

It’s a very simple black and white look, but I like how the two trees look together. I used a grainy pen brush to show some texture on the trunks so they have a bit of an interest. The branches are a bit tangled and busy, almost like trying to tell a story, and looking at it now hmmm maybe I went overboard again, I think it really fits the quiet mood of the prompt though. The shadows are very long and bold, which makes the whole scene feel a bit more dramatic on the sidewalk when the sun is up on its first hello

I’m not so proud of how shaky my sidewalk lines are, but it just adds to the honest, hand-drawn vibe I’m going for. It was a lot of work to get all those branches in there, but I’m just happy to keep drawing and sharing the progress with u all.
