There's an expression "It never rains but it storms!" And that has been so true this past weekend. Quite a paradoxical reality in our drought stricken valley. We've had a brief respite from years of living in dust to a few special hours of splashing in mud puddles.
If it is called a labour of love does it still qualify as slave labour? I guess it depends who you are asking! My Dad @quailbreeder, just returned home after a 6 week vacation with us. He became an honourary Buckaroo for that time. While I fattened him up with all sorts of organic homegrown food, he helped us with his amazing carpentry skills.
Not only have I dreamed of Africa, I live in Africa. The beautiful ocean bordered Southern part of Africa. At the moment in our Western Cape home we are a number of years into a drought. Bizarre considering that large parts of the country are flooded. We recently visited friends, a short drive from our homestead. They live at the foot of the mountains and are probably the only part of the country that still has a fair amount of water.
Being the southern tip of Africa there are some incredibly beautiful places to visit that are still virtually untouched by modern human - shall we call it - development. There are also some special places that rehab wild animals. Birds of Eden Sanctuary is such a place.
When I was a child growing up on the coast we sometimes rode the little train along the shore line. It was called the Banana Express. Recenlty, while awaiting my daughter's birth in our seaside rental home, we could hear the distant tooting of a train. My son loves machinery and things that move.
Imagine waiting for the birth of your baby while watching the whales in labour! Because we live 4 hours from my midwife, we had to be near her for the birth of my daughter. We rented a small house on the Cape coast to await Baby Buckaroo's arrival. Little did we know, as we walked the beaches and splashed in the waves, that we were there during the birth season of whales!
