Some of you will remember me writing news two months ago that I was considering taking us multichain. The idea was borne out of the user problem we have over in hive.
Great blockchain, small amount of users, and, a rapidly declining interest amongst the hardcore userbase.
I'd rather not get into specifics but there is a growing consensus amongst the hive userbase that no-one listens to them anymore, and through that I have seen many move away for greener pastures.
Right now if I were to bet on how we are doing then I'd say we are leaking users, rather than retaining them. And, since we're a chain that requires human production to push through then that's not a great benefit to us.
I have been quite scared for hive's future on the whole over the last few months.
I'm sure the bull market this year will bring in new and excited people for the way forward as it always has done -- however I'm very unsure how the next bear market will treat us. It might be a bad one.
That's why I have decided to take us multi-chain. I have been out there searching for other avenues and pastures to set a foothold into should hive ever fall off a cliff.
My own userbase has been asking that I protect us if anything crazy should happen to us in the next five years. Previously I saw Splinterlands as a nice get out clause, because they span across many chains, however I'm not even sure that will safeguard hive from the winter that's coming if attitudes don't change.
That's why in November of last year I began searching for potential "second bases" for us. I didn't tell anyone though.
That's when I came across Magic Newton in December.
I can talk about this now since the CEO has been on twitter sharing updates that I've been previously been reluctant to share with the world.
Anyway:
What is Magic Newton?
Magic Newton (@MagicNewton) is a ZK Layer 2 blockchain developed by Magic Labs in collaboration with Polygon Labs, designed to be an AggChain integrated with the AggLayer for seamless cross-chain interoperability within the Polygon ecosystem. Built using Polygon’s Chain Development Kit (CDK), Newton aims to unify EVM-compatible chains, enabling users to interact with multiple blockchains through a single wallet and balance, simplifying transactions and enhancing user experience. Backed by Magic Labs’ $83M funding and partnered with Reliance Jio (potentially integrating “JioCoin” for its 500M+ user base), Newton leverages zero-knowledge proofs for fast, secure, and gas-efficient operations, positioning itself as a consumer-focused chain with access to the AggLayer’s unified liquidity and user base, likely featuring a native token to drive its ecosystem and participate in programs like the AggLayer Breakout Program.
I'm in the inner-circle here.
Yes, I know all the team to talk to and I have a direct audience if I needed one to put forward any ideas I had for the future.
Both their Product Manager and Dev Manager sit on the BRO discord. I asked them why they joined and they said, "we're getting here before the masses do" - I am not sure how to take that because I still have no clue how I can be fully of use over there.
Time will tell though!
It also seems like we'll be fast headed to see something tangible soon because the CEO has been sharing snippets of what he's been working on recently on X.
Great! But what does that mean for us?
It's access to a much wider ecosystem. 1000x the liquidity and buying power available on hive. Probably even 100,000x the buying power on hive since 98% of the whales on here never really look at the little plebby L2 projects and what we are all up to.
The clincher will be the reputation. It doesn't mean much right now being in the inner-circle of Newton, because there's nothing tangible to play with, no product, no tokens, nothing; right now we sit and await.
But there will be -- and I expect the position I've managed to get into will be reputationally worth its weight in gold eventually.
We are soon to have so much opportunity and access thrown at us that I'm probably not going to know what to do with it all.
But what about Hive?
Well, we'll still be here plodding along. I'm never going to leave the place that birthed us. I mean I know I'm a little negative about this place but there are so many variables that could change our trajectory for the better.
Our tokens will still be here -- my plan is to create Pol (or Eth) L2's for them. Similar to what we did with swap.gifu. Yes, we'll be doing the same with Gifu too.
With any luck we'll grow significantly over the next two years!
But remember, nothing is certain, and anything can happen - so whatever you do with this information it's all a risk.
So be careful out there folks!!
Peace.
