Hello friends, lovers of hiking and nature trips, today I bring you an official route called "trilho convento" it is a derivation of a trail that goes towards "alto do formosinho" this entire area is known for multiple hiking trails and a quite natural environment surrounded by the mountains of the "serra da arrabida" the Atlantic Ocean in the background and some quite beautiful flora and vegetation, I hope you enjoy my experience today.🧭🌍
Hola amigos amantes del senderismo y los viajes en la naturaleza, hoy les traigo un recorrido oficial llamado "trilho convento" es una derivación de un sendero que va hacia "alto do formosinho" toda esta zona es conocida por múltiples rutas de senderismos y un ambiente bastante natural rodeado por las montañas de la "serra da arrabida" el océano atlántico de fondo y una flora y vegetación bastante hermosa, espero disfrutes mi experiencia para hoy.🗺️🏔️
Route and trailhead🌍 / Ruta e inicio del sendero🚩
As you can see, I'm leaving the route on Gmaps and the entire trail. When we start, we have a sign with recommendations and warnings for the hike we'll be doing. We're going to climb more than 500 meters, so we need to have a decent level of endurance for this climb. I don't recommend doing this with small children. Summer is quite hot, so come prepared with sunscreen and plenty of water. You have to follow the signs, this leads to the village of "Azeitao," or you can stop at the top of the mountain and turn back, which is what I'll do. If you do everything very early, I recommend taking a look at Alpertuche beach.🌍🗺️
Como pueden ver les dejo la ruta en Gmaps y todo el sendero, cuando comenzamos tenemos un letrero con las recomendaciones y advertencia de la caminata que haremos, vamos a subir más de 500 metros por lo que tenemos que tener un nivel de resistencia decente para esta escalada, no recomiendo hacer esto con niños pequeños, verano es bastante caliente así que ven preparado con protector solar y muchísima agua, tienes que ir acompañando las señalizaciones esto llega hasta la aldea "de azeitao" o puedes parar en la cima de la montaña y devolverte que es lo que yo haré. Si haces todo muy temprano te recomiendo dar un vistazo a la playa Alpertuche.🏕️🏞️
Base camp🌍 / Campamento base🚩
The base camp from where we did the hike and in total it was 21km between going and returning was here: 38.604931, -9.045552, as you can see the environment in this area is totally different from when we approached the mountains, the vegetation, plants, flowers, animals, everything is totally different and it is good because we can see the positive impact that the route we are going has on the landscape of Portugal, if you are a lover of paths that demand high physical performance then I recommend this adventure for today.🏕️🗺️
El campamento base desde donde hicimos la caminata y en total fueron 21 km entre ida y vuelta fue aquí: 38.604931, -9.045552, como puedes ver el ambiente en esta zona es totalmente diferente a cuando nos acercamos a la sierra, la vegetación, plantas, flores, animales, todo es totalmente diferente y es bueno porque podemos ver el impacto positivo que tiene la ruta donde vamos en el paisaje de Portugal, si eres amante de caminos que te exijan un alto desempeñó físico entonces si te recomiendo esta aventura para hoy.🏔️🧭
Even with this beautiful landscape, it's worth taking a tour of the Coina camp before climbing the mountains. It's like a small protected reserve dedicated to the preservation of certain animals, especially birds and foxes, as well as rabbits. If you're lucky, you might come across one. Walking alongside the stream is a magical experience.🏔️🥹
Todavía con este hermoso paisaje merece hacer un recorrido en el campamento de Coina antes de subir a la sierra, es como una pequeña reserva protegida destinada a la preservación de ciertos animales, especialmente las aves y los zorros, así como los conejos si tienes suerte puede que te tope con alguno de ellos o ir al lado del riachuelo es una experiencia mágica.🌳🌿🍀🌾🍁
I previously passed through this area in the summer, and it's very arid. We don't see any plants that require moisture, so seeing all these ferns is a once-a-year spectacle. We usually don't see them until late spring.🌿🍀
Yo anteriormente pase por esta zona en verano y es muy árida no vemos ningún tipo de plantas que requieran humedad, por ello ver todos estos helechos es un espectáculo de una vez al año, normalmente hasta finales de primavera los conseguimos.🍁🍁
We climbed the mountain🌍 / Subimos a la sierra🚩
After leaving the park, it's time to get going and climb the mountain towards Setubal. We estimate a 3-hour walk to the base and then 2 hours to the top. The whole thing may take about five hours. We will pass through the national highway N10. If you plan well, you can visit many villages in the area, all of which have a touch of mystery and history, some of them dating back to the 15th century.🌍
Luego de abandonar el parque, es momento de ponernos en marcha y subir la montaña hacia Setubal tenemos estimado una caminata de 3 horas hasta la base y luego 2 horas hasta la punta, puede que todo tome unas cinco horas, vamos a pasar por la carretera nacional N10, si haces una buena planificación puedes conocer muchas aldeas de la zona todas tienen un toque de misterio e historia, alguna de ellas datan del siglo XV 🤩

We've hiked this area many times and completed numerous trails on numerous occasions. Throughout each experience, we've enjoyed the diverse biodiversity. Recently, I've been showing you several species of wild orchids, some exotic animal species, hotels, mountains, and monuments. The Convent Trail definitely offers plenty to stop and contemplate. The area's strongest point is its beaches.🧭🌿🌾
Ya hemos recorrido muchas veces esta zona y en reiteradas ocasiones completamos muchos senderos, en todas las experiencias hemos disfrutado de diferentes biodiversidades, últimamente les he estado mostrando varias especies de orquídeas salvajes, algunas especies de animales exóticas, hoteles, sierras, monumentos, definitivamente el sendero del convento tiene muchas cosas para detenernos y contemplar. El punto más fuerte de esta zona son sus playas.🏕️🌍
This last photo demonstrates how the climate and biodiversity have changed on the mountain. Compared to base camp, we now see a large number of species of fungi and lichens common only to this area.🧭🍁
Esta última foto es una demostración de como cambio el clima y la biodiversidad en la montaña, si lo comparamos con el campamento base, ahora vemos un gran número de especies de hongos, líquenes, comunes solo de esta zona.🍄🍄
Why the name of the convent?🌍 / ¿Por qué el nombre del convento?🚩
When we reach this section of the trail, we see two sections of the convent. This entire section here dates back to the 15th century, very old! People lived in caves like these here, like "hermits." They were devoted to Catholicism, and others were actually monks. The convent was later rebuilt between the 16th and 17th centuries. It is synonymous with the "Virgin of the Arrabida," the entity venerated in Setubal.🧭🍁🍄
¡Cuando llegamos a este tramo del sendero vemos dos secciones del convento, toda esta parte de aquí es del siglo XV muy antigua! Las personas vivían en cuevas como estas de aquí al estilo "ermitaños" eran devotas del catolicismo y otras eran propiamente monjes, el convento se reconstruyo posteriormente entre los siglos XVI y XVII, es sinónimo de la "virgen da arrabida" la entidad que es venerada en Setubal.🏔️🗺️
Climbing the mountain🌍 / Subiendo la montana🚩
Normally in spring on a sunny day it's quite relaxing, this hike is always more difficult in summer, there are days when you have to watch the news in case the area is at risk of fire, imagine the heat up here, typical Mediterranean landscape where pine and cork trees predominate.🧭🍁🍄
Normalmente en primavera en un día de sol es bastante relajante, esta caminata siempre verano es más difícil, hay días donde tienes que ver las noticias por si la zona es de riesgo de incendio, imaginate el calor que hace aquí arriba, paisaje típico del mediterráneo donde predomina el pino y el árbol de alcornoque.🌳🌳🌳
We arrived🌍 / Llegamos🚩
Note that when we arrived there was a geodesic frame, a cement structure placed at the highest points in the country and used to take measurements. I stayed here a bit to enjoy the scenery and then went down.🏕️🌍
Fíjense que cuando llegamos hay un marco geodésico, eso es una estructura de cemento que se pone en los puntos más altos del país y sirven para hacer mediciones, me queda aquí un poco para disfrutar del paisaje y luego bajar.🚩🚩
All the trails in this mountain range are connected to each other. Some have different names, and others aren't official. I've already done the official one here, called "Alto do Formosinho."
