Today’s post features my 18k gold bracelet purchased last 2022. It weighs in at 3.4 grams and is 7.5 in length.

Today we will be looking at some tips on how to purchase gold jewelry. But before that if you are into collecting precious metals, please make sure to join the #silvergoldstackers community. Research
My first advise for starting collectors is to do some research before your purchase. While gold is a solid investment, it is not for everyone. Case in point, it is a good store of value but it does not generate income.

This bracelet is a bit thicker when compared side by side to my other one.
Purity
To calculate the percentage of purity is pretty simple. Just divide the karats over 24. Say for example 24 karats is 100% gold. 18k is 75% gold 12 karat is 50% gold and so on. The remaining metals could be composed of silver and/or copper. If you are from the Philippines I would suggest going with 18k pieces. It is explained in my previous article link here.

It still keeps a low profile. This is how it looks when worn and is not too attention grabbing
Hardness
Gold is a soft metal making it a top choice for fine jewelry as it is easily malleable. The lower the carat the harder the alloy is. If you want to collect jewelry which you would be wearing regularly then I suggest going for 18k. Rings in particular I suggest 14k. But if you are into collectible coins or bars or buillion for the purpose of displays or storage only the you can choose 21-24k.

I like my chains to have a tight fit especially for bracelets. Loose ones tends to bother me when I'm out and about.
Gold Plating and Purchasing
Be aware that gold plated accessories would have no value when sold or pawned. The gold content is too little to be of any actual value. Another reason why to always conduct legit checks and only purchase from trusted sellers. Gold is often faked or claimed as genuine and the market is just full of scammers so having a reputable supplier is a must.
