Time For A Haircut!
Not for me, though .. I don’t have quite enough left to make a blog post out of it. Hehehe. My wife, on the other hand, does, but she won’t let me within ten feet of her head while holding a pair of scissors. And honestly, I can’t blame her one bit.
Surprise, Little Buddy!
Huxley, however, doesn’t have a say in the matter. He also didn’t see it coming.
Last Friday, I took a much-needed day off .. Determined to tackle a long list of to-dos before heading into an early happy hour. I woke up early and got right to it. The wind was calm, so I took a moment to burn a bunch of accumulated junk paperwork, random scraps, and, most importantly, some sensitive documents that I wasn’t about to let Huxley turn into confetti. He had already been caught red-pawed pulling papers out and giving them his own “shredding” treatment. Bad puppy! LOL.
But the big item on my list? Bath and haircut time for Mr. Huxley. And trust me, he needed both.
I’ve been doing my own dog grooming for a while now. Back when Molly was with us, the groomer wasn’t an option because of the stress it caused her. With her Addison’s disease, keeping her calm was the priority, so I learned to handle it myself. Huxley, though, is a different story. He doesn’t mind the process at all, but since our groomer moved 25 minutes away, it’s no longer the most convenient option. Though, if (or when) we decide to get a 'friend' for Hux, we may need to reconsider professional help!
This session went surprisingly well. Huxley was calm, patient, and cooperative, even for those tricky spots. I recently invested in a tiny trimmer designed for those sensitive areas like the paws, face, around the lips and eyes, the groin, and, yes, the dreaded butt trim. I even tested the trimmer on myself (don’t ask) to make sure it was safe, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t manage to cut my own skin. That gave me confidence it would be gentle for Huxley.
With no breaks and no fuss .. I managed to bathe and fully groom him in one go. What a difference from last time! Maybe it was the time of day, or maybe I was just less of a stress case. Who knows? All that matters is that Huxley was a champ.
And wow, the amount of fur that came off this tiny dog! He weighs about eight pounds, but after the trim, I joked that he was probably down to seven. Okay, maybe not quite, but he definitely looks sleeker.
I may not be an expert groomer .. But even I’m impressed with the results. So yes, I fully deserved that early happy hour. Huxley, too, had his own little puppy-style happy hour, lounging by the window, staring out at the lake as the breeze rolled in. Eventually, he drifted off into a peaceful nap, looking fresh and dare I say .. Fabulous.
It was a productive day all around!
Now, if only my wife would let me test my skills on her…
We’d save a fortune on salon visits!
Yeah… I already know the answer to that.
LOL.
Thank you for swinging by my blog and checking out the post. Have a great day!
