O.K. so I decided to experiment with the sharing economy as a worker instead of a consumer. I have joined Postmates. Today was my first day and it was...interesting. I did 7 deliveries between 11:30am and 5:30pm on a Sunday. SO far NOT $25 bucks an hour, but I haven't gotten my tips yet.
One of the main reasons I wanted to do this is because the youtube videos all comment that they've discovered new foods and places being a Postmate courier-and I LOVE good food! So today I found a few spots I would definitely return to on my own time, but as for the experience itself...
- The App order function:
The app ordering is not an exact match for grocery store menus. You will have to call or text the customer to ask for specifics, or it dosen't add what it should and the customer is left disapointed...which may affect your tip. - You have to pay your own tolls-THIS SUCKS!
- The inbetween conection to the customer through the app SUCKS! And they may not get the text!
- The so-called BLitz areas can disappear VERY fast, so by the time you hit accept, it may already be gone and you've already accepted!
- There is always a problem with the app timing out, WTF?!
You definitely have to keep your gass receipt and your milleage for tax purposes. In the end, it;s something to do in your down time and the expireance is stressful at first, but I plan to take my time and see what happens. Either way, it's a great conversation starter :-)
p.s.
I just found a place in the Kendall area of Miami called Killer Melts. They not only have Sunday the Walking Dead watch parties but they also have a "Neegan Burger"! Oh yes, I will return!!!
