Villa Azucena: Eco-Turism on the Mountains of Carpúpano

Este es mi primer post aquí, y quiere compartir con ustedes una experiencia fantástica que vivi junto a mi pareja y amigos. Fue un fin de semana muy bonito, lleno de momentos y recuerdos que quedarán para toda la vida.
Quieren contarles un poco sobre la historia de la montaña que decidieron explorar juntos.
Villa Azucena comienza hace más de 34 años, cuando fue concebida como una residencia privada y un espacio familiar en plena montaña, en las Lomas de Chuparipal, en Carúpano.
Este lugar fue creado por Pedrito Salazar y Sucena Figuera, y su nombre surge como homenaje a Sucena y a la profunda conexión con la naturaleza que siempre caracterizó este espacio.
En sus inicios, Villa Azucena no estaba pensada como un destino turístico, sino como un refugio de esparcimiento y aprendizaje ambiental. Principalmente recibía a familiares y amigos para compartir
Desde esos primeros años, la casa blanca que se alza en la cima de la montaña destacaba a lo lejos. Por su visibilidad desde distintos puntos de la ciudad, los habitantes de Carúpano comenzaron a llamarla cariñosamente “la Casita Blanca de la Montaña”, nombre que aún hoy se mantiene.
Aunque Villa Azucena tiene una larga historia, fue alrededor del año 2021 cuando decidieron abrir este espacio al público. Así nació una nueva etapa enfocada en el turismo ecológico y sostenible.
Actualmente, junto a Adelis y Alfredo, impulsan la Academia Ecológica Villa Azucena, un proyecto que ofrece: Senderismo guiado, áreas de camping y gastronomía tradicional. Todo pensado especialmente para quienes recorren los 3 kilómetros de subida hasta la montaña a 500 metros sobre el nivel del mar.
La aventura fue bastante buena y completamente nueva para nosotros. Estuvimos subiendo durante casi una hora, desde las 10:00 a.m. hasta las 11:00 a.m., porque hacíamos varias paradas para descansar. Nos costó bastante, pero cuando llegamos… ¡valió totalmente la pena! El paisaje era increíble y el viento, refrescante.
Después nos pasó algo impresionante: comenzó a llover, el clima se volvió de neblina y no se veía nada. En la foto apenas se alcanza a ver cómo empezaba la neblina, pero fue una experiencia muy bonita.
Nos habíamos preparado con unos sándwiches y refrescos, además de juegos de mesa como cartas, para disfrutar del tiempo allí empezamos a bajar a las 4:00 p.m. y al principio no se veía el camino, pero la bajada fue mucho más rápida en apenas 20 minutos ya estábamos de regreso.
Hoy, Villa Azucena se ha convertido en un símbolo de turismo sostenible en el estado Sucre. Representa la oportunidad de que nuevas generaciones disfruten de las mismas vistas, aprendizajes y emociones que inspiraron a sus fundadores desde 1990, manteniendo vivo su legado y el respeto por la naturaleza.

This is my first post here, and I want to share with you a fantastic experience I had with my partner and friends. It was a very beautiful weekend, full of moments and memories that will last a lifetime.
I want to tell you a little about the history of the mountain we decided to explore together.
Villa Azucena began over 34 years ago, when it was conceived as a private residence and a family space in the heart of the mountains, in the Lomas de Chuparipal, in Carúpano.
This place was created by Pedrito Salazar and Sucena Figuera, and its name was chosen as a tribute to Sucena and to the deep connection with nature that has always defined this space.
In its early days, Villa Azucena was not intended as a tourist destination, but rather as a retreat for recreation and environmental learning. It primarily welcomed family and friends to share experiences and knowledge.
From those first years, the white house perched at the top of the mountain stood out in the distance. Due to its visibility from various points in the city, the people of Carúpano affectionately began calling it “the Little White House on the Mountain,” a name that still endures today.
Although Villa Azucena has a long history, it was around 2021 when they decided to open this space to the public. This marked the beginning of a new chapter focused on eco-friendly and sustainable tourism.
Today, together with Adelis and Alfredo, they run the Villa Azucena Ecological Academy, a project that offers:
Guided hiking
Camping areas
Traditional cuisine
All of this is designed especially for those who make the 3-kilometer climb up the mountain, reaching 500 meters above sea level.
The adventure was really great and completely new for us. We spent almost an hour climbing, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., because we took several breaks to rest. It was quite challenging, but when we arrived… it was totally worth it! The scenery was incredible, and the wind was refreshing.
Then something amazing happened: it started to rain, the weather turned foggy, and we couldn’t see anything. In the photo, you can barely see how the fog was beginning, but it was a very beautiful experience.
We had prepared some sandwiches and drinks, as well as board games like cards, to enjoy our time there. We started heading back at 4:00 p.m., and at first, we couldn’t see the path, but the descent was much faster. In just 20 minutes, we were already back.
Today, Villa Azucena has become a symbol of sustainable tourism in the state of Sucre. It represents an opportunity for new generations to enjoy the same views, lessons, and emotions that inspired its founders since 1990, keeping their legacy and respect for nature alive.
