Today will be your final day of employment

After just over 5 years service for my latest employer I have been made redundant. How is that sitting with me today and what's in store for the future, I wonder?

I can't say I didn't see it coming. Day-to-day tasks and project work had dropped right off, and I found myself updating our departmental Wiki with details of the Systems I'd implemented and supported - useful for someone forgetful like me, and for a team about to lose one of its members.
My line manager had also become more distant over the past few months. Weekly team meetings and 1-to-1's were being cancelled more often than not, and I remember joking with a colleague that I thought I was being avoided. Still, when a meeting from Human Resources arrived in my calendar along with required attendance from the department director, being sacked wasn't the only outcome on my mind - with no pay rise last year, I was also holding out for a 5 years service 'thank you', and some more cash.... And I guess those things happened yesterday to some extent, but this morning there was no requirement to switch the company laptop on at 8:30am this morning.
Which feels pretty damn good!
This I'm sure is partly due to short-term boost in cash due to severance pay, and the prospect of plenty of free time during the Spring here in Mallorca, but I'm also enjoying wondering about what I'll end up doing next to pass the time and earn a living.
Another day another dollar.... Now you work for yourself as opposed to for someone else
Was one response I received. Online and on my own time, covering living costs and a little bit more, does sound nice. I'm also thinking though, should I look at doing something that gets me moving, talking, interacting, and outside.
Something like this!

Being paid to ride a bike, I could handle that. Figure out the touristy history chat later innit. The advert is over a month old but I've still enquired. Although I'm now wondering if I was a bit hasty in my excitement, and if I should have included this 7+ year old blog in my email.

Well, perhaps not, those green borders are awful!
Anyway, it's good to see there are more than just bar work opportunities in the local area. This is the time to be seeking work locally with the Summer season and tourists not far away. However, the idea of low pay and long late hours doesn't appeal so much, and perhaps I should take the opportunity to rest and assess before jumping into something new. There is also family to care for and to visit, and it would make sense to do that this year.
So whilst I'm keeping busy, comfortable for now but without a regular income, there is always the chance that during this time the next Bitcoin bull-spike-run-whoosh will take place, bringing the wider market along for the ride, right?
I've had October/Autumn 2025 in mind for a few years now as a potential time for some profit taking. This was the timeframe I gave to my ex-boss after helping him buy some Bitcoin for under $20,000 in 2022. He's since sold his (less than a year later without mentioning it to me for ages) for 50% profit. And so with recent events in mind, it would be even sweeter if there were to be more action towards the end of this year. Another go at getting that Villa deposit, eh?
Thanks for that, it's been a while (again) since writing. Feels good to have something written down today.
I hope all is well for you, cheers
Asher
